HAVANA - 1night

Day 1: Welcome to Havana! After clearing immigrations and customs, our airport representative lead you to your driver who will transfer you to a private house in the heart of the historic center. *Light lunch and meet and greet with your concierge. Walking around Havana feels like strolling through a painting of some mythical land; past the fog of the doldrums, the buildings fade out on the edges in loose lines and scattered twitches, as if left by the stroke of a brush. It remains a city of secrets, of mystery, the perfect labyrinth in which to set a story. You can see why Hemmingway had his way with the place—it is a tropical muse. Later that evening, celebrate your arrival with a welcome dinner at a private restaurant. (*For morning arrivals)

JIBACOA - 1night (20-30kms Cycling)

Day 2: After the bike fitting we set off on a panoramic sightseeing of the City covering the following areas; Miramar, Parque Metropolitano de la Habana, Nuevo Vedado, stop at the Revolution Square. Continue through Vedado passing by the Hotel Nacional de Cuba down to the Capitolio via Centro Habana. Stop at the Capitolio building; continue biking down Prado promenade, near the former Presidencial Palace, then on to the train station, the remains of the wall and to the Arms square. From here we continue on foot visiting the four most importants colonial squares in Old Havana. After lunch transfer directly to Jibacoa Beach, a charming seaside village with a pretty beach where we will have our first stop. Enjoy afternoon and evening relaxing at the beach

MATANZAS - 1night (5hrs Cycling and about 70km)

Day 3: Today's route is a wonderfully scenic introduction to the Cuban countryside and Cuba's potholes! Tropical landscapes with Royal Palms and small villages. The route is mainly on tarmaced roads though at times the quality of the tarmac is very poor.
After breakfast we have a bike fitting and warm up before setting off on our bikes. Our first day's ride starts along the coastal road and continues on this magical route through the beautiful YUMURI valley, a typical picture postcard tropical valley full of palm trees and open pasture land. After the first few kilometres we have to cycle uphill away from the coast to enter Yumuri Valley. It's not a hugely challenging hill but should warm you up! We regroup and then cross the main Havana-Varadero road and head along the old main road. This road is now sleepy back water dotted with small villages and homesteads. We follow the valley floor on mostly flat roads with only one section being hilly. We pass Cuban villages, farms and ranches and stop for lunch at a country restaurant. Terrain is quite mixed, starting off with good quality tarmac roads which then deteriorate into compacted earth road once we enter Yumuri Valley. After lunch the road improves again and we enter Matanzas on good quality tarmac. From here we continue to cycle to Matanzas City. The entrance to Matanzas includes a challenging 800m hill. Once you reach the top you have reached Matanzas! Cycle to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

CIENFUEGOS - 1night (5-6hrs Cycling and about 65km)

Day 4: This morning we cross the plains of Matanzas, a pretty ride which takes in sugar cane, citrus groves and finishes in the Zapata Peninsula. The route is through rural communities on tarmaced roads.
Today cycle directly from the hotel and ride through Matanzas to the Peninsula of Zapata. The route goes inland from north to south crossing many citrus orchards. A few kilometres of Carretera Central give you a feel of what was once the main Havana to Santiago Road. This single lane road is now used for local traffic so expect to share the tarmac with ancient Soviet tractors, inter town buses, lorries, 50's American Cars, horses and carts and, of course, other cyclists! The route today takes you through what was once prime sugar cane land. Cuba became extremely rich farming sugar cane and we cycle through villages where once entire families would have been employed working this crop. About 20km into the ride you reach Triumvirato where a monument commemorates a slave uprising and reminds us that one of the last countries to relinquish Slavery was Cuba. After approximately 60km we stop in the small agricultural town of Pedro Betancourt and transfer to lunch. From lunch transfer approximately 1.5 hours to Cienfuegos for dinner and overnight. Before reaching the hotel we will have short orientation tour of Cienfuegos, a World Heritage Site and an important fishing town on the Southern Coast of Cuba.

TRINIDAD - 2nights (6-7hrs Cycling and about 96km)

Day 5: This is the most challenging day in terms of distance and terrain. The route leaves Cienfuegos and immediately undulates sharply through the mango groves and pasture land until you reach the undulating road around the Escambray Mountains and towards Trinidad. It is a truly beautiful ride which finishes on the coastal flats below Trinidad. Tarmac roads, mainly good quality. The group will arrive late in the afternoon at the hotel and we believe they will be very tired! We suggest better to visit Trinidad the following morning when they are fresh.
Today we set off on one of our most challenging rides. Setting off from our hotel the road soon starts to undulate through pasture land. After about 12km the nippy hills finish and we take a right onto the main Cienfuegos to Trinidad road. Views are spectacular with the majestic Escambray Mountains to your left and rolling countryside dotted with palm trees all around. For the next 40km we undulate through Cuban countryside, stopping where there is shade for water and snacks. After 50km we reach La Vega where we get off our bikes and enjoy a well earned Cuban typical lunch. With only 30km till Trinidad the afternoon ride is relatively flat until we reach the outskirts of Trinidad where some short hills bring us into Trinidad. We ride into the World Heritage town of Trinidad, a jewel of Colonial architecture where traditional methods of transport and cobbled streets give it the feel of being trapped in a time warp. Almost immediately we turn off the main road and head towards La Boca, a small fishing village on the coast near Trinidad. The last 10km or so are along the coast road and finally we reach our beach hotel for the night.

Day 6: Free day in Trinidad to relax and enjoy this beautiful colonial city.

SANCTI SPIRITUS - 1night (6hrs Cycling and about 77km)

Day 7: An Early start this morning ensures we have time for a short visit to Trinidad. One of Cuba's World Heritage Sites, this city is a jewel of colonial architecture. We set off by private transfer from our hotel and when we reach Trinidad, set off by foot on a city tour. The tour ends in Plaza Sant'Ana where our bikes will be waiting for us and we set off immediately for Sancti Spiritus, on a ride through a scenic valley of sugar mills and tobacco fields. Our first rest stop is at Manacas Iznaga, formerly a sugar farm. From here we continue along the undulating road past field after field of sugar cane. We'll stop for a picnic lunch along the way and then head for the market town of Sancti Spiritus. The route today is challenging with plenty of undulations!. We arrive at our hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening soaking up our surroundings.

SANTA CLARA - 1night (6-7hrs Cycling and about 85km)

Day 8: Today is relatively easy after the challenges of the past 2 days. We leave Sancti Spiritus and have to deal with a little bit of relatively heavy traffic on the outskirts of town before for reaching the Carretera Central. Once the main road of Cuba, this has become the local connection route now that the highway passes close by. Expect plenty of agricultural vehicles such as horses and carts, tractors and bicycles. The road is pleasant as is passes through sugar cane, small rural towns and plenty of undulations but much easier than the 2 previous days. We'll have a picnic lunch along the way and then continue cycling until we reach the outskirts of Santa Clara and Che Mausoleum, one of Cuba's most important Revolutionary Monuments. From here we either cycle or transfer to our hotel for the night.

LAS TERRAZAS - 1night

Day 9: Early check out and drive to Las Terrazas, stopping for late lunch on arrival. Remain of afternoon free for relaxing in Las Terrazas Biosphere Reserve. We recommend you cycle down to the Rio San Juan to swim in the clear river. Or you could try zip lining on the 800m course in Las Terrazas. The Canopy Tour is a nearly 2km aerial tour using steel cables to whiz above Las Terrazas' fascinating scenery.

SAN DIEGO DE LOS BAÑOS - PINAR DEL RIO - 1night (About 60km)

Day 10: After breakfast we set off with transfer from Moka to Soroa then down the hill and into the valley. We spend most of the day cycling along the plain and through pretty colonial farm towns dotted along the old Havana – Pinar del Rio Road. We continue to cycle to the Spa town of San Diego de los Baños. Once famous for its medicinal waters the town is now a sleepy backwater of pretty squares and colonial buildings. Time for late lunch, then transfer to Pinar del Rio for check in and overnight.
